Singular Dental Implants Epping, Sydney
What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is a popular option for replacing missing or damaged teeth. Your new prosthetic teeth will function as normal whilst enjoying the comfort and aesthetics similar to natural teeth. And we the one in whole Sydney offering amazing dental implants services.
A singular dental implant is composed of 3 main elements:
- Artificial root – this is made of titanium and embedded within the jaw bone
- Abutment – attaches to the head of the implant and sits above the gumline which creates a stable platform for the prosthetic tooth to be added
- Prosthetic tooth/crown – it is made from porcelain or a metal alloy. It resembles a natural tooth since it is visible and is bonded or screwed to the abutment (creating a stable platform onto which the prosthetic is added).
Benefits of singular implants | Dental implants Epping, Sydney
Look and feel like natural teeth
With singular dental implants you can achieve a beautiful smile that you can feel proud of. The artificial teeth also feel surprisingly similar to your natural teeth, providing more comfort.
Improved function
Your new implant will be secured into the jawbone by a titanium screw which will not move from its position. Daily activities such as eating and speaking will become easier. Your new prosthetic tooth is a permanent solution so you can laugh, smile and enjoy food as you normally would.
Increased stability
Singular implants are fitted into the jawbone and they provide more support for artificial teeth. A singular implant can help support or stabilise upper or lower dentures to prevent them from moving around. It can also support bridges or replace a partial denture.
Will not affect neighbouring teeth
A singular implant can be placed in a patient’s mouth so that it doesn’t affect neighbouring teeth. This may be preferable rather than a fixed bridge attached to two teeth or more which may require altering your natural teeth (like shaving them down to accommodate crowns). Patients can keep more of their natural teeth intact with dental implants.
Increased durability
If properly cared for, you can enjoy a lifetime of fully functioning, natural-looking teeth since dental implants are attached directly to your jawbone. A good oral hygiene routine and regular trips to the dentist is all you need to achieve this.

Who is an ideal candidate for single implants?
If you have either lost a tooth, or your tooth is extremely damaged then a singular dental implant might be a good option for you. It’s important that your mouth is relatively healthy and free from infection. You should also have sufficient jaw bone to allow for the dental implant to be placed securely. Dr Jeremy Lung will be able to assess whether you are a candidate in a consultation, where he can give you tailored advice based on your individual situation.
What is the singular dental implant procedure?
Before you can begin, you will need to meet with Dr Jeremy Lung in an initial consultation where he can assess your mouth and remaining teeth. He will also take an X-ray and a CBCT scan (3D digital imaging) to gain a better picture of whether you would be a good candidate for surgery.
Some dentists can perform the surgery in one session. However, where Dr Jeremy Lung differs is that he does not follow this method as you cannot pre-determine where the bone will heal once any old teeth are extracted. He ensures the highest possible chance of success by extracting teeth, waiting for the mouth to heal and then placing the new implants to reduce risk of infection, avoid the need for grafting, and maintain healthy bone.
Most surgical procedures for dental implants are carried out under local anaesthetic. After your mouth has healed from any required tooth extractions, Dr Jeremy Lung will be able to begin the dental implant process.
Firstly, the artificial root is embedded within the jaw bone. Next, the abutment attaches to the head of the implant and sits above the gumline.
After 2-4 weeks of healing, the abutment is placed on top of the dental implant which is covered with a prosthetic tooth, such as a dental crown, which looks and feels like a natural tooth.
Dental Implant Surgery Aftercare
After surgery, the dental implant will undergo a process of osseointegration over the next few months where your implant will essentially fuse with your jawbone as it heals. This forms a strong and durable tooth root replacement which will re-establish the connection lost by the missing tooth; this connection stimulates the jawbone and the gum line to keep them alive and healthy.
To prevent plaque build-up around the implant, it is recommended to maintain a good oral hygiene routine such as flossing once a day and brushing at least twice a day. Patients should continue to visit their dentist at least twice a year for check-ups and cleans to ensure the dental implant is healing and performing well and for overall oral health.
